There are so many great reasons to practice yoga! One of the best reasons is that you don't have to be a yogi to reap the benefits. It doesn’t matter whether you are young or old, overweight or fit, yoga poses can help strengthen and relax the body. Yoga has been shown to increase strength, flexibility, and VO2 consumption. It also lessens chronic pain, lowers blood pressure, reduces insomnia and helps relieve the effects of stress.
And you don’t need any equipment to enjoy yoga. Yoga requires only your body, mind and spirit. However, most modern yoga practitioners feel more comfortable with a few basic items that are easy to obtain. Here is a list of the things you may want to consider for your yoga practice.
Of course, yoga can be practiced anywhere. Once you know a few poses, you can practice yoga everywhere you go. I’ve done goat yoga in the country with a group of girlfriends, beach yoga with Kim on our annual girls’ trip, and I practice this deep stretch yoga routine at home.
The best way to learn to do the poses correctly, is to join a live class. Everyone there was once a beginner. By knowing what to expect, you can focus on learning the techniques. After you have learned the basics, you can have fun with your practice with anyone, anywhere.
